TONAL INFINITY

Introducing the EUSONIA Audio PRE-1 Microphone Pre-amplifier.

Built by hand in New York, the PRE-1 features a Super-Class-A, all-tube, ultra-clean signal path, and a near infinite variety of tone and color due to its unique analog design.

In an audio landscape overcrowded with clones and sub-standard manufacturing, the PRE-1 stands out as truly world-class for its ingenuity, fidelity, versatility, and build quality.

EUSONIA Audio is a collaboration between award-winning audio technicians and designers, Dave Powers and Albert Langella, and Grammy-winning Producer/Engineer, Scott Jacoby.

The PRE-1 sells for $3999 and is available for direct purchase through the links above.

It is beautifully designed, well-made, and sounds absolutely great. The controls are well thought out, user-friendly and offer a really nice spectrum of “color” options from super hi-fi clean to funky without being overly “tweaky”. I wish I had 4 of them !!!

– NEIL DORFSMAN (Paul McCarty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Sting)

The Eusonia strikes a rare balance between clarity and character. It has a beautiful sense of depth and dimension, with a wide, musical range that lets you move from clean and open to richly colored without ever losing focus. The controls feel intuitive and intentional and everything sounds more alive going through it — it’s a modern classic!

– EMILY LAZAR (Fouunder, Chief Mastering & Mix Engineer at The Lodge)

The Eusonia pre is pure magic. From ultra clean to pure color this pre has been my go to pre for Vocals and Bass.

– YARON FUCHS (Herbie Hancock, Annie Lenox, John Mayer, Paul Simon)

Effortlessly provides vintage strength and modern clarity. The design allows for a new sound every-time it’s used. I reach for it on every project.

– EVAN BAKKE (Head Engineer, PowerStation New England)

What Eusonia founders Scott Jacoby, Dave Powers and Albert Langella have made here is simply one of the best microphone preamplifiers I’ve ever had the honor of using.

– ELI CREWS (Tape Op Review, Issue 172)

So great I had to get 2 – these will be a part of everything I do from now on.

– ANDREW SHERMAN (Founder, GImme Butter)

In a rack full of the greatest pre’s of all time, the Eusonia Audio Pre-1 stands alone.

– SCOTT JACOBY (Coldplay, John Legend, Jason Mraz)

The Eusonia is a great sounding mic preamp that’s full of sonic range. You can get anything from modern hi-fi clean to fat and furry retro. It is super useful to be able to dial up the color that’s right for a particular microphone. The DI is outstanding. It would be equally at home at a very well appointed studio or as the only preamp in a small setup where you wanted to level up your sound. There are not many other mic preamps that give you this much range.

– DAVID BARON (Shawn Mendes, Lumineers, Lana Del Ray)

These Preamps are indispensable! They make EVERYTHING sound better and the feature set was clearly designed by a mind reader. They are our first choice on every session now.

– CHAS PAYSON (Owner, Echo Beach Studios, FL)

First time I used the Eusonia Mic Preamp on bass, it made my bass so fat and punchy, I could feel it flexing through the studio monitors!

– ELI MENEZES (H.E.R., Jennifer Hudson, Lauryn Hill)

ABOUT EUSONIA AUDIO

In the beginning God created… transformers.

And not just any transformers; a pair of vintage UTC transformers that were dusty and old, but with incredible mojo and crazy-great specs. In view of anyone else, they could have been destined for a landfill. But in the hands of electronics troubadour Dave Powers, and award-winning engineer/designer Albert Langella, these were a call to action.

Dave asked Albert to design an all-tube mic pre with a specific feature set and unique signal flow. They built two prototypes using the vintage transformers, with no intention of manufacturing or selling them to the public. Mounted in an off the shelf rack with handwritten designations, the circuit was stellar; the units sounded amazing.

Into the repair shop walks Grammy-winning producer/engineer Scott Jacoby, who was intrigued by the unit. Dave offered that Scott bring it back to his studio to give it a test drive. “What the f*&^ is this, Dave?!?! I put this up against every pre at my studio and this is the best thing I’ve ever heard. I want to be involved…”

Albert and Dave sourced a modern transformer with the same specs and hand-built six point-to-point prototypes, which Scott brought to several well-respected peers who were similarly blown away. They all concurred: there was something world-class here, and profoundly different than other pre-amps: the circuitry, gain-staging, components, and unique design allows for a near-infinite amount of tone and color variations. Hence, the phrase Tonal Infinity. It was time to make this real and share an exceptional piece of equipment with recording community.

Three years, and several iterations later, a partnership is born, and the PRE-1 is launched – still hand-made. Welcome to the world, Eusonia Audio.

SOUND SAMPLES

A few notes on the sound samples:

  • They were recorded mostly at 24bit/96k in various studios in the New York area. No EQ or compression was used in the recordings.
  • When we compared our pre to other top-of-the-line pre’s, we have withheld the name of our competitors out of respect for their brands. Those samples are labeled COMPETITOR.
  • For the shootouts, we split the mic signal and went into our pre and our competitor’s pre. Everything was level matched on the input and output gain stages.
  • Samples can be streamed in your web browser, or downloaded, via Dropbox.
